Pattern
Verb た-form + り + Verb た-form + り + する
Explanation
〜たり〜たりする is used to list actions as representative examples, implying that other similar actions may also be done. It is the action equivalent of 〜や for listing nouns.
Formation: change the verb to past tense (た-form), replace the final vowel sound with り, and end with する. For example: 食べた → 食べたり, 飲んだ → 飲んだり. The sentence ends with する (or します for polite form).
This pattern is also used with adjectives and nouns to express fluctuation: 天気が暑かったり寒かったりする (the weather is sometimes hot, sometimes cold). The final する can be conjugated for tense and politeness.
Examples
週末は映画を見たり、買い物したりします。
しゅうまつはえいがをみたり、かいものしたりします。
shuumatsu wa eiga o mitari, kaimono shitari shimasu.
On weekends, I do things like watching movies and shopping.
休みの日は本を読んだり、音楽を聞いたりする。

Common Mistakes

Correct

The pattern must end with する (or します). Do not end with です.
Wrong

Correct

The り comes after the た-form. Use the full た-form + り pattern.
Wrong
映画を見たり買い物する。
Correct
映画を見たり買い物したりする。
Both verbs should be in the たり form. Do not use たり for only one verb.
