〜てもいい
〜てもいい means 'it's okay to' or 'may I.' It is used to ask for or give permission.
Pattern
Verb て-form + もいいです(か)
Explanation
〜てもいいです is formed with the て-form + もいいです. It means 'it is okay to do' or 'you may do': '写真を撮ってもいいですか' (May I take a photo?).
To give permission: 'はい、いいですよ' (Yes, it's fine) or 'はい、撮ってもいいです' (Yes, you may take photos). To deny permission: '撮ってはいけません' (You must not take photos).
The casual form drops です: '食べてもいい？' (Can I eat?). The negative permission ('don't have to') uses 〜なくてもいい: '行かなくてもいいです' (You don't have to go).
