Ba Conditional (~ba)
〜ば
The ~ば conditional expresses 'if' with a focus on the condition itself, often for general truths and hypothetical situations.
Pattern
U-verb: ~う → ~えば | Ru-verb: ~る → ~れば | する → すれば | くる → くれば | i-adj: ~い → ~ければ | na-adj: ~であれば
Explanation
The ~ば conditional is formed by changing the final vowel of the verb to -e and adding ば. For u-verbs: change -u to -eba (行く → 行けば). For ru-verbs: change -ru to -reba (食べる → 食べれば). する becomes すれば and くる becomes くれば. For i-adjectives: change -い to -ければ. For na-adjectives/nouns: add であれば or ならば.
The ~ば form is often used for general truths, hypothetical conditions, and giving advice. It has a somewhat formal or literary feel compared to ~たら. A key restriction: in standard grammar, ~ば cannot be used when the main clause describes a volitional action by the speaker, unless the condition and result share the same subject.
A very common expression is ~ばよかった, meaning 'I wish I had...' or 'It would have been good if...' This is frequently used to express regret.

高ければ
For i-adjectives, replace い with ければ directly. Don't keep the い.
