When / How Long (いつ / どのくらい)
いつ / どのくらい
いつ asks 'when' and does not need a particle. どのくらい asks 'how long' or 'how much' (degree/extent).

いつ + Verb / どのくらい + Verb
Explanation
いつ means 'when' and is used without a time particle (に): 'いつ行きますか' (When will you go?). It occupies the same position as a time word in the answer: 'いつ行きますか' → '明日行きます.'
どのくらい (or どのぐらい) asks about duration or degree: 'どのくらいかかりますか' (How long does it take?), 'どのくらい日本語を勉強しましたか' (How long have you studied Japanese?).
