While Doing (〜ながら)
〜ながら
〜ながら means 'while doing' — performing two actions simultaneously. The main action is at the end.
Pattern
Verb stem + ながら + Main Action
Explanation
〜ながら connects two simultaneous actions by the same person: '音楽を聞きながら勉強します' (I study while listening to music). It attaches to the verb stem (ます-form minus ます).
The action with ながら is the secondary action; the main action comes at the end: 'テレビを見ながらごはんを食べます' (I eat while watching TV — eating is the main action).
Both actions must have the same subject. You cannot use ながら when two different people are doing different actions.
